Ohio CDL Practice Test 2026: Maneuverability Test & BMV Fees
Don't just read the guide. Test yourself with the actual questions likely to appear on your CDL test.
If you are getting your CDL in the Buckeye State, you need to be prepared for something unique. Ohio is one of the few states that does not test parallel parking. Instead, you must pass the dreaded Maneuverability Test.

The #1 starting point. Covers vehicle inspections & basic road safety rules.
This guide covers the specific requirements for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) in 2026.
1. The Unique "Maneuverability Test"
Most states make you parallel park. Ohio makes you thread a needle. This is where most students fail their skills test.
How it works:
- Step 1 (Forward): You drive forward through a box of four markers (9 feet by 20 feet). The examiner will point left or right. You must steer the vehicle into that lane without hitting markers.
- Step 2 (Reverse): This is the hard part. You must back the vehicle from that angled position straight back into the original 9x20 starting box.
- The Rule: You cannot stop to check your position, and hitting a marker is an automatic fail.
Pro Tip: Focus heavily on your mirrors and the "pivot point" of your trailer. This test proves you can handle tight docking situations.
2. Ohio BMV CDL Fees (2026)
Ohio's pricing structure is straightforward but requires separate payments for the permit and the license.
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| CDL Temporary Permit (TIPIC) | $27.00 |
| First CDL License (Class A, B, or C) | $42.00 (approx) |
| Endorsements | $43.00 (add-on) |
| Pre-trip / Skills Retest | $50.00 (if scheduled by third-party) |
Note: Many skills tests in Ohio are conducted by third-party testing centers, which may charge their own scheduling fees (often around $115 total).
3. Ohio "Farm Waiver" Rules
Ohio has a large agricultural industry. You typically do not need a CDL if:
- You are driving a farm vehicle controlled by a farmer.
- You are within 150 miles of the farm.
- You are not a "for-hire" carrier (common carrier).
However, you still need to follow safety laws regarding weight limits and lighting.
4. Ohio CDL Practice Test Questions
Get ready for the BMV General Knowledge test with these Ohio-focused questions.
Running over or knocking down a marker during the skills test is considered an accident/safety violation and results in an automatic failure of the exam.
On packed snow, reduce speed by 1/2. On ice, reduce to a crawl and stop driving as soon as you can safely do so.
Can I take the test online?
No. While you can renew a license online in some cases, the initial CDL Knowledge Test must be taken at a driver exam station. The Skills Test is usually done at a third-party testing location.
